Artist: Eduardo Paolozzi (Scottish, 1924-2005)
Born in Leith, Edinburgh (1924-2005), Italian-infused pop art pioneer Eduardo Paolozzi found beauty in scraps. Magazines, comics, industrial discards formed vibrant collages like "Bunk" (1958), critiquing consumerism and celebrating machinery. His playful bronze giants like "Standing Figure I" (1960) graced public spaces, and his mosaics adorn London's Tottenham Court Road. From screenprints to multimedia, Paolozzi successfully blurred art's boundaries, his auction record reaching £5.8 million for "Collage of the Fifties" (2019). A knighted innovator, master printmaker and educator, he was a friend of and influenced pop art giants like Warhol, Lichtenstein, Hamilton and Blake. Paolozzi's vibrant legacy remains a cornerstone of 20th-century art.
