Artist: Che Lucky (1913-1983)
Lucky Che's 車可期 interest in photography dated to the 1930s. By the 1950s many of his entries to international salons were accepted, and won him many prizes and titles. The most remarkable achievement was to qualify as fellow of the Royal Society of Art.
Lucky Che enjoyed taking a group of students to exhibitions, where he would openly evaluate individual works as in a classroom. To nurture emerging talents was something he took extremely seriously. He called himself an "idiot", referring to his obsessive interest in photography and his uncontrollable urge to transmit his knowledge to juniors.
This urge benefited not only pupils but even more his son and grandson. Son Che Wai-kin is particularly interested in news photography and has had pictures accepted by international salons dozens of times.
Grandson Che Ching-on came second in the Young Photographers of Hong Kong competition in 1999. The torch is being passed on down the generations.
