Artist: Alison Grant (Scottish)
With a lifelong passion for painting and drawing, Grant found herself over the years increasingly drawn to fine art. Having begun her studies in Boston and Hong Kong, on her return to Scotland, she undertook a postgraduate course in painting and now works from her Edinburgh studio.
Grant is currently developing a body of work arising from her research into coastal communities within their ecosystems on the coasts of Scotland, from Viking graffiti artists who anchored in the best fishing areas to the contemporary works of today's Blue Carbon visionaries.
Grant’s solo exhibitions include Stone Moon (Scottish Poetry Library, 2022; Sidney Nolan Trust, Presteigne; No Ruined Stones (White Horse Gallery, Wiltshire, 2020); The Shape of Time (Warburton Gallery, Edinburgh, 2014); Suspended Shadows (Henderson Gallery, Edinburgh, 2010).
Selected group shows include: Deluge (Edinburgh Printmakers, Edinburgh, 2019); Time Spent Among Trees, SSA Professional Members Exhibition (Methuen Museum, Forfar, 2019); Summer Exhibition (Rabley Drawing Centre, Wiltshire, 2015-2016); SSA Exhibition (National Galleries, Edinburgh, 2011-2023); RSA Exhibition (National Galleries, Edinburgh, 2011-2023); VAS Exhibition (National Galleries, Edinburgh, 2020-2023); and Mural Paintings (Alice Ho Mui Ling Nethersole Hospital, Hong Kong, 2000). Alison Grant has been awarded the Rodney Beaumont Award, Manchester University, the Purcell Prize, SSA, has been elected a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists and is an Artist Member on the board of Edinburgh Printmakers.
