Sharon Sandberg's still life painting is inspired by an art installation by fellow artist and Aquinas Art Department colleague Dana Freeman. The broken egg shells were left over from Freeman's "Eggshell Mantra," an installation that has seen different iterations over the years.
In this case, the artist cut 3000 eggs with an exacting knife in the Aquinas dining hall. The broken eggshells form a kind of pyramidal sculpture, symbolizing the mantra or prayer for wanting a child.
