April Popko
Popko focuses on transferring energy through art to bring positivity and light with vibrant, abstract, acrylic paintings.
MessageBorn in Massachusetts, April Popko has presented her work in solo exhibitions for the United States, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, and beyond. She has exhibited for multiple local and international group shows such as Norway, Canary Islands, Singapore, South Korea, Gemany, Dubai and Switzerland. She is an active member of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, home to the country's oldest art community. Featured artist in local and international publications and magazines, Popko also uses her art to support charities and organizations, to promote communication and connectedness.
Currently based in Czech Republic since 2003, April paints from her Prague 5 studio, using the energy she gains from her time in Cape Cod. She is inspired by nature and communicates her experiences of living between two worlds. Her vibrant, texturized abstractions are often inspired by her travels abroad. Soaking up the fresh, salty air of the Atlantic ocean, seeing the crisp light reflected off the sand dunes and hearing the soft sea grass swaying in the wind, can be felt and experienced in her paintings.
Statement
As my creations communicate energetically, I am driven to connect and inspire people to live intentionally. I aim to encourage others to celebrate every day, to find and shine light as brightly as possible, and to consciously share skills, talents, ideas and gifts with the world. I wish you inspiration on your journey through the universe, experiencing moments that move your soul in ways you would have never dreamed, through art and beyond.
My obsession to paint was born from the need to communicate in a complex, foreign world. Since 2003, I had lived abroad, and in this diverse, “global community” I was searching between language barriers and cultural differences. I had questions around what I could contribute to society by being an American living in Czech Republic and I needed to express myself without words.
Through art, I reinvented myself to convey what I needed the outside world to understand. In this transformative process, I discovered fearlessness and, unexpectedly, a massive sense of connection. My art became the medium in which I could communicate my energy and build bridges between the gaps which I thought had existed—linking countries, communities, genders, lifestyles, cultures, languages, and even the space between heaven and earth. I aim to bring viewers together through my art so that they too find their purpose, their connection, and their understanding of themselves as an essential part of the universe.
