The Menhir Project
A planetary network of symbolic antennas
The Menhir Project is a long-term artistic research developed by Antonella Mellini, conceived as a symbolic and energetic network extending across different geographies, cultures, and contexts, and articulated through sculpture and performance as tools for connection.
Each Menhir is a sculptural presence functioning as a contemporary antenna: a point of transmission where matter becomes a carrier of intention, memory, and human energy. Rooted in ancient forms and articulated through contemporary materials, the Menhirs create a dialogue between the archaic and the present, the visible and the invisible.
The project unfolds through sculpture and participatory actions. During performances, visitors are invited to inscribe secret words directly onto the works, gestures charged with personal intention that become integral, invisible layers of the sculpture. These words, concealed beneath stratified surfaces of color and material, transform each Menhir into a repository of collective energy.
The sculptures are conceived to inhabit space in multiple orientations: standing, suspended, grounded, or inverted. This plurality of positions operates as a conceptual device that encourages a shift in perception and opens access to alternative readings of reality. Inversion functions as a tool for expanding awareness and reconfiguring the relationship between body, space, and form.
The Menhirs exist as interconnected nodes within an expanding, non-hierarchical network. Each installation contributes to a symbolic system in which artworks, people, and places resonate together. The project outlines a map without borders, where every Menhir amplifies the energy of the whole.
The Menhir Project unfolds as an open structure designed to grow over time through encounters, gestures, and shared presence. It evolves as a living system in which art operates as a field of connection between individuals and the world they inhabit.
