This series of works is a marriage of my abstract work and my still-life work. I use a palette knife for the abstract strokes and brushes for the subject matter. The gummy bears, with their inherently playful and nostalgic connotations, stand out vividly, inviting the viewer into a world tinged with childlike wonder yet layered with unexpected complexity not only due to the abstract elements but to the fact that the gummies are frowning “grumpy gummies”.

In this piece, I created a balance between meticulous detail and expressive freedom and used color contrast to guide the viewer’s eye across the painting. The gummy bears were rendered with a tactile quality that brings forth their rubbery texture adding a sensory dimension to the visual experience.
