MessageANNE STINE, Artist
American artist Anne Stine is best known for her encaustic mixed media paintings that reflect an intimate, human connection with the natural world. She adds a contemporary twist to landscape painting by combining oils with encaustic beeswax medium, then fuses each layer using heat onto a wood panel. Visually, her paintings are lively and instantly recognizable, capturing the aesthetics of serene environments through her brilliant use of color and texture. “I want people to see nature through the eyes of a child, full of awe and wonder, to help recapture the often forgotten connection to Mother Earth.” After a career in arts marketing, Anne followed her long-time passion for painting, and now exhibits her work all over the world, including the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in New Mexico.
Statement
I paint landscapes and natural forms that feel both familiar and intimate. Trees, shorelines, forests, and shifting skies often appear in my work, layered in encaustic and mixed media to capture the textures, colors, and rhythms of the natural world. My paintings are not strict representations but personal interpretations, shaped by memory and emotion. They are meant to feel like encounters with nature as a close friend—nurturing, calming, and deeply restorative.
My life as an artist began in childhood, when I first developed a friendship with nature. That innocent way of seeing the world has stayed with me, shaping the meaning behind my work today. I paint to honor that early connection and to share the comfort and calm I have always found outdoors, noticing details others might pass by and experiencing nature as a companion.
As I grew, that curiosity deepened into study and exploration. I began to see how themes like memory, resilience, and growth are not only present in the natural world but also in our own lives. Over time, painting became more than creative expression. It became a way to care for myself in a chaotic world. Nature offered me strength, serenity, and purpose, and my art now extends that gift to others.
My process is rooted in observation and reflection. I spend time outdoors, noticing textures, colors, and rhythms that speak to me. Back in the studio, I translate those impressions into layers of mixed media and encaustic (a paint made combining beeswax, natural resin, and pigment) applied to wood panel and fused with heat, allowing the materials to echo the depth and complexity of the natural world.
Ultimately, I want my art to feel like an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to experience nature as a source of healing. I hope it reminds people that our world is not only beautiful but also deeply nurturing, a place where we can find restoration and connection both outside and within ourselves.
