"Black Bird Singing in the Spring" is a depiction of my spirit feeling uplifted by the springtime and by singing. I sing weekly in a circle of women, it's kind of like my church. Each spring I look forward to the weather changing, birds singing, flowers blooming, and to rolling my easel out of the studio to paint outside. I have painted black birds repeatedly over the years. The lyrics in "Black Bird" by The Beatles, "take these broken wings and learn to fly, all your life you were only waiting for this moment to arise" has special meaning to me. This song was playing when we had our daughter. We have had the quote up on our porch wall since we brought Evelyn home from the hospital. We waited a long time for her to come into our lives and feel grateful every day.
