Anne Burtt
San Antonio, Texas
Fused Glass Artist, Military Veteran, World Traveler, Philanthropist, Animal Lover, Optimist
MessageThe direction of Anne's life was set when her father was recalled to active duty in the Air Force in 1962 when she was five years old. Her family moved from a farm in "small town" Indiana to Tripoli, Libya and thus began a lifetime of travel. After spending her early years living around the world as an Air Force brat, Anne attended Indiana University, graduating with a Forensic Studies (Criminology) degree. A year later, she followed in her father's footsteps joining the Air Force as a criminal and counterintelligence investigator. After a rewarding 20 year career, Anne retired and cultivated her creative interests and focused on art glass as her medium of expression. Anne has found her individual style and is very content in her life.
Statement
I am a contemporary fused glass artist best known for my multidimensional, layered glass sculptures. My glass work is always evolving and I am constantly exploring ways to go deeper with my imagination. My love of color, texture and the beauty of glass is evident in my current abstract work. In it, I create a diverse array of contemporary designs painted on glass with multiple layers of enamels which are fired in my kiln. Once cool, I add layers of glass to the base, building interest and texture, then back in the kiln another time resulting in my abstract textural designs. Each of these cutting edge glass works are modern and fresh and hopefully elicit joy for the viewer.
