This piece emerged from a long-held memory and a quietly powerful photograph. The images, taken underwater by artist Tania Candiani, captured a group of local women swimmers, and in one of them, one shape stood out: a familiar arm, wearing a beloved gold bracelet, suspended in motion, almost abstract, but undeniably hers.
View from Under is not a literal recreation but a layered response. Through stitched textures, the work conveys the weightless stillness of being submerged; where light diffuses, colours deepen, and time slows. The ochres and sea greens reference sand, body, and water; the delicate white threads drift like currents or breath.
More than an observation, this piece is a remembering; of a shared moment, of the unseen lives beneath the surface, and of the ways we carry presence through form, gesture, and thread.
