Field Study 4 – Estuary Shoreline Fragment is shaped from freemotion embroidery stitched on a soluble base, later dissolved to leave only thread. The layered forms suggest windswept coastal grass, stone walls, and river pebbles, echoing the shifting edges of the Shannon Estuary.
Mounted against Fabriano Rosapina paper, the stitched relief floats slightly off the backing, its undulating surface casting shadows that change with the light. The piece reflects on how shorelines hold traces of both movement and memory, fragments of tide, stone, and knotted grass that mark a landscape in flux. By turning thread into relief, the work bridges textile, landscape, and archaeology, balancing delicacy with resilience.
