Hawthorn Leaf I is based on a fresh hawthorn leaf gathered from the hedgerows that line the roads and fields of rural Ireland. I stitched the natural spread of the leaf’s lobes in layered green thread, keeping a sense of lightness so the shape feels lifted from the page. Hawthorn Leaf I and II are mirrored studies of the same form, created to sit naturally as a balanced pair while still holding their own as individual works.
