Inspired by natural forms of rock strata, tree roots and organic growths, the colors of the African earth where I grew up. I am fascinated by the aging process and the beauty in decay. "Poufs" made from eco dyed rescued fabric are embellished with: wire, washers, sequined fabric and stitching with embroidery floss or wool. They are then soaked with vinegar, wrapped in plastic with rusty metal and left for 12 to 48 hours to rust dye. They are then air dried to set the color before being washed and soaked in a water and baking soda solution to stop the rusting. When I have a large pile of “poufs” they are assembled and stitched onto a hardware cloth form covered in fabric. The sculpture was then adorned with vintage jewelry and fabric flowers.
