Geometric "Ma and Pa Kettle" Painting By Angie Jones. (Appropriation of American Gothic American Gothic Painting by Grant Wood, 1930)
“There is satire in it, but only as there is satire in any realistic statement.” ~ Grant Wood
This piece vibrates visually when viewed with 3D glasses and is painting on a Hexagon canvas at 36".
My interest in appropriation like most artists is to translate the work through a modern lens and through my own visual language. The remix of the original statement of Grant Wood's piece into neon colors and simplification of form concentrates the message into a new interpretation. Only the pitchfork is painted in a realistic fashion, the rest is imagined through the polygonal topology. This piece vibrates in three dimensions using anaglyph glasses.
