Angela St Jean
Pembroke, Ontario
Paintings that capture the fleeting moments and memories from my various ramblings near and far from home in beautiful wild Canadian landscapes.
MessageBorn and raised in the Ottawa Valley and a graduate of Interior Design, Angela St Jean is a mostly self taught artist who’s had the opportunity to work alongside some of Canada’s best landscape/plein air artists on the coast of British Columbia, the mountains of Alberta and the rivers, lakes and valleys of Ontario and western Quebec. She has a deep desire to use her art as a mechanism to further our appreciation of the natural places and spaces that surround us. Being a mother of two and having a full time career in environmental remediation management ensures that she always returns home from her paint spattered wanderings.
Statement
I’ve been painting on location for over 15 years in various locations near and far from my Ottawa Valley home. What started out as a self imposed challenge to be an “authentic artist”, morphed into a pursuit of a passion to capture the spirit of the places I love. The challenges of working in the field, including what it may even take to get me to these locations is what permits me the most growth as an artist. There’s a story behind each painting and the experience that brought it to life. I paint because I see. I don’t fully experience a place until I can share my expression in colour and brushstoke. I share my work in the hopes that it can weave mystery and reverence for nature deeper into our daily lives.
