In ancient Crete, the god Poseidon placed a cruel curse on Queen Pasiphaë—causing her to fall in love with the Bull of Minos. Consequences were dire. Eventually, the spellbound Pasiphae instructed Daedalus to construct a strong wooden scaffold, covered in cowhide, to enable her to couple with the bull. As a result she conceived the half-bull, half-human Minotaur—a beast who fed on human flesh and had to be imprisoned in a giant labyrinth. Mayhem ensued.
