In Irish mythology, Manannán mac Lir, god of the sea and guardian of the hidden Otherworld, sails his magical boat, Sguaba Tuinne (pronounced SKOO-uh-bah TWIN-ya). Unlike mortal vessels, it requires neither sail nor oar, moving only at his command. With it, he traverses unseen realms, gliding across seas and mist to protect and guide those who enter the Otherworld.
