Thomas Moore's 1804 poem "Written on Passing Dead-Man's Island" describes a spectral ship passing with some unknown nefarious purpose. In the ending lines he bids the vessel "Oh! hurry thee on -- oh! hurry thee on, thou terrible bark! ere the night be gone."
