La Bête du Gévaudan (the Beast of Gévaudan) was a notorious creature that terrorized the Gévaudan region of France in the 18th century. Between 1764 and 1767, it was responsible for a series of brutal attacks on humans, claiming dozens of lives. Descriptions of the beast varied, but it was generally described as a large, wolf-like creature with reddish fur. Despite extensive efforts to hunt it down, the true identity of the creature and its origins remain a subject of historical mystery and legend.
