Collection: Ana Žanić SOLO EXHIBITION "DREAM GARDEN" at Geneva Public Library -September 2025 through January 2026
Often reminiscent of imaginary landscapes, my watercolor paintings evolve through layers of washes, with an emphasis on the mark making. There is a quiet tension between the watercolor's fluidity, softness and calm, versus the dynamic, rhythm and energy of drawing.
I find that, as a medium, watercolor holds inherent qualities of intimacy, lightness, and spontaneity. Unlike most other mediums, its mistakes can't be covered up with another layer. Its transparency shows the whole process.
I love that aspect of its vulnerability - it resembles life itself.

The influence of nature can be seen in all my work. In addition to my watercolors, my new series of small ceramic sculptures titled "Reef Pods" is inspired by the undersea world and childhood memories from many summers spent on the Adriatic coast in Croatia."
