Ana has been involved in photography for over 35 years. Mainly self-taught, she uses the camera as a tool to portray the world as it can still be found in some corners of the planet.
After her move to Arizona and a long hiatus away from photography, she has again taken out her camera and now enjoys photographing her surroundings in the American Southwest and working with traditional, alternative photographic processes.
Currently, three of her hand printed and hand colored Cyanotype and VanDyke prints are included in the ‘Light Sensitive’ exhibition at Art Intersection Gallery in Gilbert. She also has one print in the Tubac Center of the Arts Member’s exhibit and at the Tucson JCC’s “Beauty of the Sonoran Desert” exhibit.”
Ana was a Polaroid Creative Use Consultant and lead workshops on Polaroid Emulsion (lifts) and Image Transfer processes. She has taught at The Print Center in Philadelphia, Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, Highland Cultural Center, Somerset Art Association, Garrison Arts Center, and at local camera clubs in the in Tucson and the NYC tri-state area. She also led private workshops to suit the student’s schedule and interests.
In 2002, Ana was awarded a Special Opportunity Stipend grant by the New York Foundation for the Arts and the NYS Council for the Arts. Among her awards are the Phillip Isenberg Memorial Award (1st prize in photography) at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit and 2nd prize in photography at the Housatonic Art League Art Show.
One of the premier stock agencies for nature photographers, Animals Animals/Earth Scenes, has represented her work since 1989. Her images have been used in the Velvet Claw Portfolio of BBC Wildlife Magazine, on the cover of Hallmark’s Untamed Africa calendar, on the video cover for Predator: Polar Bears from Time/Life videos, and by other educational and promotional firms.
Ana’s work can be seen year-round at Desert Artisans’ Gallery on Tanque Verde in Tucson where she is an member artist, at the Tubac Center of the Arts gift shop, and online at NossubGallery.GoDaddysites.com. Ana also had solo shows of her photography at The Piermont Flywheel Gallery (Piermont, NY), Flat Iron Gallery, (Peekskill, NY), and M. J. Ellenbogen Gallery (White Plains, NY), and her images have been part of numerous solo and group exhibits in the NYC tri-state metropolitan area.
Statement
When digital photography became 'the way to go', Ana thought its popularity would develop a better appreciation of traditional and historical photo processes.
After reluctantly moving from analog to digital photography, she felt something was missing in her work and eventually immersed herself in historic photographic processes, particularly hand colored Cyanotype and Van Dyke prints.
Ana has always been interested in the natural world, and her photographic images reflect that interest. She works to capture the ;eel' of old buildings, the power and grace of wild animals, the colors and shapes of flowers, and the beauty of patterns in nature.
