Artist: Nicholas Lyon
The New Deal artist, Nicholas Lyon, received training at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. He was commissioned by the Section of Fine Arts (part of the U.S. Treasury) to paint a mural in the Conroe, Texas post office in 1937-38 entitled "Early Texans." While the mural is now lost/destroyed, the study for the mural is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
