Amber Coppings explores how layering memory and narrative, place-based materials such as natural dyes, and repetition can instigate healing.
Message
This tapestry is created with quilt-inspired sewing techniques using natural dyes. The composition was inspired by a month of nightly sunset watercolor paintings made in December 2021, a month after I moved to Hawai'i. The process of observing the skies became a ritual that began the process of understanding the many layers of what it means to live in a beautiful, yet occupied place.
