Second Skin is an abstract 3D form made of mild steel. Crocheted cotton mesh covers the entire visible surface, stretching across all sides and matching the shape of the piece. The mesh is only secured to the piece at the bottom, giving it a fair bit of flexibility across the steel surface, allowing it to move or be pulled, to a degree, much as human skin does. The title refers to the cotton mesh as a skin for the sculpture, and also acknowledges the steel surface as a skin. "Second Skin" thereby invites the possibility of two external identities existing at once, and presents the opportunity to consider what that means about the object and how we relate to it.
