This is a plein air painting I made while walking along a Jeep trail in the Beaverhead National Forest while camping at Carroll Hill with my Traveling Art Studio wall tent set up.
These art expeditions are about prioritizing my health and peace of mind; a good hike is the perfect remedy for me. In my plein air paintings, I aim for simplicity and smallness to quickly capture the beautiful moments I experience and express my gratitude for the beauty that God in nature provides. I keep my materials minimal to cover as much ground as possible. I enjoy hiking in various weather conditions, which can influence how long I can sit still to create a piece of art. I love constantly working on my art pack, trying out different weights and arrangements influenced by the distance, weather, or if I am backpacking and how much I can really carry. That, to me, is an art form of itself best learned by trial and error.
