Artist Statement
My approach to making art is to experiment using a variety of vintage instant film cameras and, more recently, my iPhone. UsIng these simple tools, I create complex images that challenge both the notion of the traditional function of a camera and the photographic process. I don’t crop, filter, or "Photoshop" my photographs to manipulate their composition (although it may look that way).
The shapes, lines, textures, and colors encourage viewers to make connections, often sparking a surprising sense of recognition, but just as often leaving room for mystery. Its not about following a clear narrative; instead, its an experience of exploring and puzzling out meaning. I want my photographs to encourage viewers to question what they know, what they don’t, and what might remain unknown.
