My artistic practices haven’t necessarily changed with COVID-19. I’m a full time artist so my schedule hasn’t changed. It’s more so how I approach my work that has changed. Last year I felt as though I made huge breakthroughs and was starting to get noticed. What changed were my plans, a shift in how I could keep my momentum moving forward now that we’re not as accessible to the public as we once were.
“This was a painting born of frustration. It began with a plan and dissolved quickly into many layers, building up and then sanding down. It broke up into different levels and I began to think of it as an abstracted tunnel on this journey through a pandemic that we’re all forced to be a part of. I see the dark days and moments, I see the light because I have to. There has to be optimism, to know we can get through this hardship and there will be newness. In the meantime we wander, tired and weary at times....”
