Alissa Leigh is a mixed media abstract painter based in Bedford, New York. Her work explores the relationship between structure and spontaneity, using layered materials and bold color to create compositions that feel both intentional and dynamic. Influenced by her years living and working in New York City, her paintings reflect a sense of movement, rhythm, and balance — built on structure and softened through gesture. Leigh has exhibited at the Armonk Outdoor Art Show for three consecutive years, 2023, 2024 and 2025. She has had two successful solo exhibitions at Chroma Gallery in Katonah, NY in 2022 and 2023, and Bedford Playhouse in 2021. In addition, Alissa has exhibited in several group shows throughout the greater New York and Connecticut area at galleries including Chroma Gallery, The Gallery at Yellow Studio, Art Show Bedford, Carriage Barn Arts Center, Jean Jacobs Gallery and the RPAC Gallery. Her work is held in private collections across the United States and Europe. She is an active member of Yellow Studio and maintains affiliations with the Katonah Museum Artists Association and The Carriage Barn Arts Center. Alissa’s practice continues to evolve through material exploration and a design-forward approach that bridges fine art and contemporary interior design.
Statement
My work explores the relationship between structure and movement through layered materials, marks, and color. I begin with an underlying framework—often informed by the grid and rhythm of New York City—and build into it intuitively, allowing each composition to shift and evolve.
Clean lines and geometric elements are balanced by expressive marks and layered surfaces, creating a tension between control and release. The result is work that feels both intentional and dynamic—structured, yet open.
I’m interested in creating paintings that hold energy within form and bring a sense of movement, depth, and presence to thoughtfully designed spaces.
