Short Description: Inspired by the seasonal creeks and streams around Austin and the ever-shifting colors of reflected light on the water.
Longer Text:
One of two paintings that bookend to long summer days staying cool at creeks near my home.
This series of paintings on wood panels is grounded in my love for the neighborhood creeks I explored as a child. Catching tree frogs and building leaf boats with my brother. Many years later showing these same waterways to my children, the sights feel both familiar and magically new.
I paint swerving lines using masking tape and layers of acrylic glaze. Their color contrasts and metallic pigments shimmer like light on the algae-green water, swirling together, drifting apart.
This series was the starting point for an ongoing process of treating acrylics like a stain, brushing watered-down paints onto wood to bring out the grain patterns. Nature's linework provides a flowing ground, ripples paused and solidified, a place to meander.
