Alex Di Silvestro redefines a widely repeated visual, into a bold, contemporary masterpiece. The artist celebrates Bowie elevating him to a powerful identity symbol, a timeless statement which carries the legacy of the early avant-garde years of the British pop legend.
Bowie’s face is distilled into pure geometry, balanced between abstract and surreal, cut through by the iconic lightning bolt, reinterpreted as the artist own signature triple-bolt motif in bright neon red. The obscured eyes shift identity into symbol: Bowie is no longer a portrait, but concept, alter ego, futurism. The invisible brush strokes are intentionally showing the pencil sketch under layer, to enhance the original drawing process and authenticity of structure.
Originally conceived on white, the artist evolved it while listening to Space Oddity, inspiring the deep black cosmic background, embedding Bowie within his own space mythology, echoing Major Tom, pop culture, and the universe of sound and vision.
