Sea States

I’ve always felt a deep connection to the ocean and feel most alive when I’m near it.  Living in Switzerland, I miss the sea and so it is associated with nostalgia, longing, memories.

Moods of Winter

A collection of moody atmospheric works. This started as a series of small work, but I've included later larger pieces which have the same mood, energy and colour palette.

Botanical Embrace (Amor Hortensis)

I am a garden and plant lover and know that working and being outdoors surrounded by plants is good for our emotional and mental wellbeing.  This, after all, our natural habitat.  This is a collection of works inspired by gardens, and the colour green.

Weather Sensitive

An open collection of artwork celebrating the weather - both real and emotional.

Signature Strokes

This body of work explores asemic writing -  loose gestural calligraphic line that resembles hand-writing but has no semantic  meaning.

The idea behind asemic writing is to create artworks that are based on the act of mark making similar to handwriting but without reference to semantic content or literary meaning. Since each ‘writer’ has a unique way of writing or making marks which may change by the day or even by the moment if the writer is sensitive to the changing twists and turns of the mind.

The origin of asemic writing goes back to Japanese and Chinese calligraphy.  It's been explored since the automatic writing of the surrealists, but abstract expressionist like Cy Twomby really made it popular.

Conversations with black

For a long while I avoided using black in my work, instead mixing a chromatic black.  I noticed I struggled with the colour, found it too hard, too strong. I decided it was time to explore black with different colours using  a very reduced palette. I started as a dialogue with 1 colour, plus black and white. Gradually I made it one translucent and 1 opaque colour. Occasional I allowed a few related colours to join the conversation.

Making Peace with Pink

I have an uncomfortable relationship with pink. I both attracts and repulses me. I especially hate Barbie, girlie pink.  I also feel uncomfortable with very girly women. This was an exploration of how much pink I can stand, and also,  what colours combine with pink to make it bearable to me.  Not surprisingly, I destroyed a number of these works.
