Artist’s Statement: This artwork is from a series of paintings that I created about the Oakland rail yard. The graphic and abstract division of the open space of the yard, cut up with the sharp lines of the tracks and the expanse of the space, all attracted me to the location. The combination of industrial space and the bay light and hills in the distance have an aspect that is unique to the Oakland landscape. In the distance, there is the combination of the new Bay Bridge and the partially dismantled old Bay Bridge that sets the timeframe of the painting.
