Artist’s Statement: In the artwork Why Shouldn’t I be a Boxer?, a young boy is practicing a new boxing technique that his father has taught him. He is standing on the spiral of life. He has been around boxing all of his young life and wants to continue the family legacy. He wants the golden gloves, the gold metal, and all of the other boxing titles. Yet, he loves science and also plans to be a doctor of sports medicine when he retires from boxing. I want the viewers to realize that just because a child looks a certain way, the child may be talented in many other areas. Also if a child likes to fight then maybe he or she should be introduced to the sport of boxing as a source of discipline for controlling his or her own life.
