Ines Kramer’s mixed media paintings are composites of several locations from throughout Alameda County with multiple points of view and perspectives.
Artist’s Statement: We spend quite a bit of time going to and from our jobs, running errands, stopping for a bite to eat, grabbing a newspaper, filling the gas tank, occasionally picking up a surprise bouquet of flowers. One of my favorite times is an early Sunday morning, when these usually crowded places are nearly deserted and I can notice the quiet dignity of the ordinary functional architecture of a typical street. Here, the hexagon of a Hayward hot dog joint takes center stage with its plate glass windows presenting impressionist paintings in their reflective surfaces. The unique Alameda newsstand could almost be a transplanted hobbit house. The Pleasanton gas station could be a corner of an old hacienda. The old substation could be the wing of a grand house. At that early hours, it’s all mine for the imagining.
