Walkers Dancing

Artist’s Statement: The Oakland Spiritual Walkers is a grassroots peace-promotion group organized by the Wose Community of the Sacred African Way, the True Vine Church and individual community members. The group walks through neighborhoods where homicides have taken place, motivating community members to join them in playing drums, dancing, praying, and distributing information about social services to bring about healing. The main dancers, pictured here, share their beautiful spirits through dance in honor of those who have passed and to bring peaceful energy to the community.
