Artist's Statement: Street photography as I practice it is a precise act of improvisation. Life in public and communal spaces—like the photos seen in Outdoor Life, shot in downtown Boston—is never predictable. In order to succeed in capturing the “lyrical realism” that I find exists in everyday life and that this photo exemplifies, I needed to become one with the scene I was photographing. I think by both lingering over time, and being in a state of alertness with my camera, I enabled these characters to truly express themselves to me.
