Artist’s Statement: This artwork illustrates an early morning in a typical East Bay neighborhood. The center is around the children and how they leave for school. I hope that the viewer will see something that reminds them of the places they live and that they will be able to smile. I hope that they will see something familiar.

This could be any neighborhood. The occupants are multi-generational and multi-cultural. It is a weekday, a time for school. The children are getting on their bicycles, scooters, and skates. Some are being escorted by parents, stopping on the way at the fence of a friend to get the latest neighborhood news. A young child carries flowers, maybe to her teacher. A gentleman shares the newspaper, and another gentleman leaves home dressed for a day at the office. On the porches of brightly painted houses, a women caresses her potted plant and another bounces a baby in the air. The sun is shining and all is right with the world.
