Artist’s Statement: The artwork I created for the Cherryland Community Center shows cherry trees in full bloom in a canopy above. I was inspired by the dynamic patterns of textile traditions from around the world and my ongoing artistic exploration of life cycles.
I created more than 50 images of cherry blossoms and branches, capturing the trees from distinct stages of growth and vantage points. The original artwork was created through a handmade process using drawing, painting, and cut paper to create full-size paper collages. The artwork was then photographed, digitized, and cut into the metal panels, creating an interplay between the open and solid shapes and patterns. It is my hope that the artwork encourages visitors to linger and feel the majestic presence of nature.
