Artist’s Statement: This series of three collage works on paper emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between living forms in our environment. I aimed for these works to translate as a message about the vital forces that propel life into being and into action. The pieces are meant to emulate transformation, revitalization and peace, depicted metaphorically in natural and organic imagery.
I hope that viewers will experience a sense of calm as well as enchantment when looking at this work. The artwork depicts birds, moths and biomorphic forms interacting in a spacious environment.
My work is informed by an interest in folk art traditions, allegory, anthropomorphic fables, and veneration for the natural world. Using collage, paper-cuts, and pinpricks on paper, I draw equally from both craft and contemporary art practice. Whether working with abstractions or biomorphic imagery, I aim to reveal a kind of dynamic organization in my compositions that involves rhythm and repetition, evoking a sense of aliveness and a balance of interrelationships.
