Artist’s Statement: As the little girl in this artwork glides on the spiral of life, you can see that she has been dancing all of her young life. Her dance is an old dance that has been passed down several generations. She loves to dance and when she visits her friends in other cities and towns she sometimes checks out the popular dances from other cultures. Many times when she dances she can feel the pride of her ancestors’ connection to other cultures. They dance for the same reason that she dances—to maintain the history of their people. I want the viewers to think about the cultural information that are they are passing to the next generation and the importance of that information.
