Matthew Scheatzle’s wood and resin artworks explore reflection and landscape in mirror‐like imagery. Scheatzle’s process involves cutting and fitting together many small pieces of wood much like building a puzzle. For this project, Scheatzle used the wood of a cedar tree that fell down during a windstorm in Oakland. When talking about why he enjoys using repurposed wood, Scheatzle states, “The material is getting a second chance, a rebirth if you will. Its history is still visible in the wood grain, yet transformed.”
