I have found that approaching the area the Ani has just vacated very cautiously and standing quietly for a few seconds the lone straggler will hop out of the dense grass up to a limb of the nearest bush to seemingly look me over. In fact, this photograph was made of a straggler that remained behind. As I neared the area the others just left, he obliged me by leaving the high grass for this small cypress tree. I was able to get several shots before he departed.
