Things that loom, by definition, some into sight indistinctly, at a distance or through a fog, appear above the horizon, or in an exaggerated form or size. I work with this looming sense of landscape using ancient geology with implied and equally ancient human presence. To me, the forms take on the energy of motion from one place to another: atmosphere drifting, rock shifting. Mass of either human origin and engineering or of the earth itself moves from the interior core outward to the surface. When looking at a two-dimensional image, unconsciously, our instinct is to locate ourselves in relation to the presentation before us. Through imagination, suspension and expansion of this instinct is accessed. Forms can become anything with one's frame of reference. I make landscapes and invite the viewer to see whatever personally needs to be seen.
