I chose this scene because it epitomizes what it was like to be in the Everglades looking toward the setting sun. I felt a sense of place that was characterized both by calmness and energy. The Everglades in general and this view from Flamingo in particular have a beauty quite unlike the soaring grandeur of the great mountains. The beauty creeps up on you and envelopes you. This is the beauty of atmosphere, enveloping biology and soaring skies. It can be as intimate as the warmth of your own breath. It is close and humid and warm for the part and then the ocean and sky take you into vastness.
