Two sundaes flipped together, like an hourglass illustrates the cycle of the day as we adults go about our mundane routines, and come back home to fun and enjoyment. Revolving around her emotions in her experience of daily life, the fun and playful visual expressions juxtapose the dilemmas of growing up and adulting. Cheng’s work depicts contradicting emotions in both a lighthearted manner by taking the viewer into a different universe—a complex yet simple rollercoaster ride — wanting to be an adult when you’re still a child; and wanting to go back to being a child when you’re an adult.

We can't have everything all at once: the innocence, and playfulness; the freedom and the knowledge, but with Cynthia’s work, we might just get a little taste of it.
