This portrait of William Monroe Trotter was created for a history project focusing on influential but often overlooked figures from Boston and Massachusetts. Trotter was a civil rights activist and one of the first Black students at Harvard University to earn Phi Beta Kappa honors. The green background represents his strong moral values. The purple squiggles and dots symbolize political change and how he challenged unfair systems. I feel personally connected to Trotter because, as a Hispanic and gay student accepted into Harvard’s Class of 2030, his story reminds me that breaking barriers is possible and motivates me to pursue my goals.
