I selected to portray Mel King because he was very significant to the fight for better and more equal opportunities for everyone. He left a lasting impact because his vision and fight for unity laid the groundwork for future generations. I personally relate to Mel King because I used to live in the apartment complex that he was protesting for. I got to experience what he was like, and how many people were able to build a community within the area because of him leading with his voice. Mel King, born and raised in South End, fought for urban renewal, served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and became the first black person to reach the general election for Mayor of Boston.
