Artist: Catherine "Cat" Mitchell
Catherine was influenced to create from a very young age. Her namesake and relative, Catherine Powers, was a talented artist who illustrated for the old Macy’s catalog, and her mother—also skilled at drawing—encouraged her early artistic pursuits. Catherine doodled at every opportunity, even if her teachers didn’t always appreciate the sketches in her notebooks as much as her mother did. Despite that, she followed every chance to pursue art, finding in it both a voice and a way to express her innermost thoughts and feelings.
What once felt impossible has now become a reality: the pursuit of art as a career.
Growing up with nature deeply embedded in her daily life, Catherine’s work is heavily influenced by the patterns and movements found in the natural world. While she considers herself primarily an abstract artist, she occasionally incorporates realistic elements into her pieces. At the heart of it all, making art brings her joy—and her greatest aspiration is for her work to bring that same happiness to others.
