Plate, 9.75 inches diameter. Black transfer with polychrome clobbering. Printed maker's mark for Dunn, Bennett & Co. Impressed "Ivory" mark, describing the body. Painted pattern number "3077," probably signifying the coloring, as it is the same shade as the painted border line. This pattern features various Asian/Japanese motifs that are placed randomly around the plate. A partial border is formed by long, narrow branches with clumps of flowers that also move into the center of the plate. One of the largest motifs is a three-section fan atop a round cartouche, leaves and ferns. There are two small round cartouches: one with an ornate bridge above water and a sail boat in the distance.

Dunn, Bennett & Co. was a manufacturer of earthenware and ironstone at a number of sites, originally in Hanley and then, from 1886, in Burslem, Staffordshire. Established in 1876 by William Dunn and his son-in-law William Wood-Bennett. Dunn, Bennett & Co manufactured earthenware and ironstone for both the home and American markets. Around 1908 it was incorporated as a limited company.
